"Sequences" in the Lectionary for Mass

A "Sequence" is a poetic text sung (or recited) used just before the Gospel Acclamation on four special feasts during the liturgical year.

They are prescribed (i.e., mandatory) for the two Solemnities during the Easter Season (Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday), and optional on the other two feasts.
